National Geographic magazine Senior Photo Editor, photographer Todd James, and Kirsten Elstner, director of National Geographic Photo Camp, join refugee teen photographers from Myanmar (Burma) to discuss the work and experience of youth photography.

Join us at the D.C. premiere of an inspiring documentary that launched this year’s PBS Summer Arts Festival series. A filmmakers’ discussion follows the screening.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28

Film Screening: The Tundra Book: A Tale of Vukvukai, the Little Rock
Watch a rare documentary about the lives of the Chukchi people, who inhabit a remote Russian peninsula in the Arctic Circle, before their livelihood vanishes forever. The film won the prestigious Nika Award from the Russian Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Best Documentary in 2011. A director’s discussion follows screening.

Film Panel: Triumph or Tragedy
Finding emotional balance in filmmaking between dismal and inspiring is the topic of audience discussion with three rising film directors from Tibet, Lebanon, and the U.S.

A director's discussion and wine reception will follow the screening at the Mexican Cultural Institute, 2829 16th Street N.W., Washington, D.C.
